Ik doe nog een sjekkie, dus waarom wachten:
Laat ik beginnen, als liefhebber, om je terecht te wijzen. Fantasy en SF zijn twee verschillende dingen!
In de fantasy was altijd een ongeschreven regel. Als je over dingen schrijft die al langer bestaan houd je je aan wat er al over geschreven is. Dwergen leven ondergronds en zijn goede smeden, elven leven in het bos en zijn goed met dieren, dat soort dingen. Rowling had daar schijt aan! Mandrake root is ineens een levend beestje ipv een zeldzame plant die alleen op het kerkhof groeit en een vloek kan opheffen, magie kost ineens niets van degene die het uitvoert, er klopt geen bal van!
Daarnaast wordt het feit dat het fantasy is gebruikt om mensen als bij toverslag (letterlijk) uit onmogelijke situaties te redden. Staat me bv bij dat Harry met een draak vecht en er ineens een magisch drakendodend zwaard langsvliegt! Ook in fantasy moet de schrijver moeite doen!
Om eerlijk te zijn irriteert het me vooral dat haar boeken nu dé referentie zijn als het om magie gaat. Mensen die geen fan waren zijn dat nu wel, maar van iets heel anders dan de echte fans.
De boeken van Tolkien waren wel 'echt', en hebben voor latere schrijvers zelfs de basis gelegd, maar mensen die de films leuk vinden en zichzelf ineens fantasy-fans noemen zie ik ook als indringers

Akkoor en terechte kritiek
maar ja, er zijn altijd valsspelers die zich niet aan de 'regels' houden
iig verbaast mij het succes van HP. Dat doet me haast twijfelen.. alsof het uit de Disney stal komt (Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera); een ander voorbeeld voor mij is Lady Gaga (te nep en controversieel om echt een popidool te kunnen zijn, maar juist daarom een popidool.. snap ik het nog?

IIg heb ik hier LOTR liggen.. ik vond de films tof en ik denk dat ik daarom heel veel plezier ga hebben aan het lezen van het echte verhaal!

Heeft denk ik te maken met de gehaaste luiheid van de moderne mens. Ze nemen aan dat wat op de radio komt de beste muziek is, kijken alleen sporten waarvan ze al als kind de regels hebben geleerd, willen simpele films zonder diepere betekenis, eten vooral fastfood en kant-en-klaar, en lezen vooral boeken waarvan ze de film al gezien hebben.
Men heeft duidelijk geen zin of tijd om zich te verdiepen in entertainment. Of het komt doordat je beter mee kan gaan in de massaconsumptie, of het komt doordat er teveel prikkels zijn van tv, internet, i-pods, reclameborden, enz.
Denk ik..
